Tiffany Throne

So we owe a big fat apology to Tiffany, she was nice enough to write “her” story about PCF and the changes and we over looked it.  She’s possibly the sweetest member we have and I dont think I have ever seen her without a big smile on her face!!! Sorry Tiffany

P.S. We have your $5 giftcard for nerd dress up day ;) as well

2012 was my first year with PCF. I had just moved to Pearland in October 2011 and was feeling like an outsider. I didn’t know anyone in town and was having a bit of difficulty adjusting to my new home. Joining PCF provided me with a community that I could feel like I belong to and make new friends. CrossFit assisted me immensely adjusting to Pearland and my new environment.

Many, many people don’t know that I use to be 50 pounds heavier. (Not something I tend to share.) I lost the majority of the weight about 2 and half years ago. However, CrossFit helped me lose that last 15 pounds to get to my goal weight. In return, through CrossFit, I’ve gained self-confidence, strength (both physically and mentally), and the experiences to go beyond what my mind says I can’t do. I cannot express how much strength CrossFit has given me to keep the weight off and lead a healthy and fit lifestyle. I will NEVER EVER EVER see those 50 pounds again. You can quote me on that! And please hold me accountable.

One last thing – THANK YOU! I am so grateful for each and every one of you that has walked into my life and helped me in my CrossFit journey. I know that I have long lasting friends and WOD partners in my PCF family.

King and Queen of Pearland CrossFit

King&Queen February2013We’ve got a lot of AWESOME athletes in our gym!  More than that, we’ve got a lot of hard working, extraordinary people doing amazing things every day!

We believe that “extraordinary” should be recognized, and in order to start recognizing our awesome athletes, we have started a new gym tradition.  We will now be naming a new “King” and “Queen” of Pearland CrossFit each month,,, complete with floating trophy!

This months winners worked hard, followed the programming, and were able to realize the largest percentage gains in their CrossFit Total scores from 18-January to 18-February. As a gym, we did awesome!  Everyone saw gains in their CF Total scores and we had a gym average increase of 106.8%, or 31#, to our Total scores!

So with that, I would like to congratulate Christopher Morgan and Alyssa Werner as the winners of our first ever King and Queen of Pearland CrossFit!

Helped by monster gains in his squat, Christopher gained his “King” status with an overall increase of 123.8% by adding 50# to his January Total of 210 pounds.

Alyssa secured the month’s “Queen” title with solid all around increases for an overall improvement of 113.5% on her Total.

So enjoy your monthly reign Chris and Alyssa, the rest of us will look forward to our chance in next months challenge to take those awesome trophies away!

CrossFit TOTAL

“The barbell never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you’re good enough or not good enough.  The barbell will always kick you in the real deal. The barbell is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the barbell to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go but two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds.”

Today we remet CrossFit total just a 4 short weeks after doing the last one.  I bet most of you were pleasantly surprised at how much you PR’d and If you didnt can you pin point the reason.

Was it your diet?

Have you been training consistently?

Did you eat?

Are you or have you been injured?

Dont get down on yourself you know everyday your working harder to get stronger in every aspect of your life no matter the numbers today

HERE is the original picture from Jan. 18th (some of you did on different days through out the week if you missed hopefully you all journaled those numbers)

Discipline in All the Little Things

One or two of you have heard this from me, most haven’t, but in my opinion, it’s discipline in all the little things that separates you from being an athlete or just another dude or chick in the gym.  In fact, I think for most of us, the easy part is making it a point everyday to get in our time at the gym, and who can blame you, it’s a great place to be!  At the gym you’ve got a lot of friends working out next to you and supporting you through tough WODs, the coaches are all knowledgeable and there to help you improve (and good looking to boot!), the music’s kicking, etc, etc.  Sure you work hard and sweat, but overall, for a lot of people, it’s something that’s done for fun.

But then there’s the athlete. No matter ability, background, Rx’d, Scaled, male, female, big, small, young, old; you’re there for something a little bit more.  You’re there because you are driven, no matter what your specific goals are.  Looking to stand on top of that podium?  Athlete. Not even looking to ever step foot on the field, or in the arena, but simply to push the limits of your own physical capabilities? Athlete.  Looking to do something special by rejecting physical complacency? Athlete. They tell you it couldn’t be done, not by someone like you, but you’re going to show them different?  Athlete.

So what’s going to separate you from just another dude or chick having a good time in the gym?  Focus on the little things.

Little things like when you loose count in the middle of your WOD you start over at zero.

Little things like 5 minutes early instead of 5 minutes late.

Little things like, not matter how long you’ve been doing this and how much you think you know, you listen quietly while the coach is talking.

Little things like rising above, and not adding to the gym gossip, because you’ve got a bigger purpose to attend to.

Little things like cheering on those around you, because what’s an athlete without a team?

Little things like taking that rest day when you really don’t want to but your body really needs it.

Little things like kind words and suffering in silence.

A little thing called leading by example.

So this week, when you’re getting your work done at the gym, think about who you want to be, an athlete, or just some dude or chick in the gym.

Lost and Found

So I lost my cross necklace that I have had for many years….I used to wear it everyday until the clasp broke, but a couple weeks ago I wore it out over the weekend and needless to say when I went for my run around Dawson High School on a Mon. it was Lost forever (I thought)….anyways Taylor Matthews he’s a crazy 5:15 am person.  went for a run and found my cross in the street in front of Dawson.  NOW this is a TRUE CrossFitter I offered him a gift card and instead of that he wanted to program a WOD!!! YES absolutely I aggreed  & I think I heard through the grapevine that there was drinking involved when programming.  Either way it totally ROCKED!!!!!!
